Being a photographer in 2024

2024 has been a good year.

Throughout 2024, I had the privilege to document a diverse range of subjects, from real estate properties to medical procedures, high school graduations to international conferences.

Some days I was photographing for property listings, other days I was photographing material for websites, brochures, marketing plans, press releases and news stories.

A big part of my work involved capturing film content too as clients want more and more video footage to get their message out and compete in today's competitive market.

Each assignment had its own unique challenges, but time and time again I was lucky to see and learn more about the world around me.

Among the many experiences, there were three standout moments that defined my year:

1. Discovering beauty in an unexpected place

Some of the most memorable experiences of the year came when I was photographing companies that work in construction and engineering. For example, photographing a team at work helping to renovate a major sewage plant taught me that compelling images can be found in the most unlikely settings.

2. Showing people as they really are

Environmental portraits were a major part of my corporate photography work in 2024.

I got to showcase the diverse energy and personalities of people working in medicine, education, manufacturing, construction, politics, finance, technology and the animal welfare.

It's always a challenge to make people feel comfortable when you're taking their picture. I like to think, from the pictures I delivered, I did just that.

3. Moving pictures are taking over

2024 was definitely the year when videography really took off for my business.

Working with film has introduced a new dimension to my visual storytelling, elevating the narrative potential of my work.

Despite the learning curve, the journey into videography has been exhilarating, offering new avenues for creativity and expression.

Finally...

Reflecting on the past year, I am grateful for the growth, challenges, and opportunities that have shaped my craft.

Here's to continued exploration and creativity in the year ahead. Happy New Year!
